It’s Not Just a Sneaker

Photo of our new mural: a red & black sneaker with rap lyrics written above it on the wall

Senior Austin Weisen worked tirelessly to complete this sneaker and really make it pop. It is truly a standout art installation in the back hallway.  According to Austin, his mural does not have a name, “it does not need one, it speaks for itself.” Austin had the following to say about his mural, “This is a real life story. The reason why I did this shoe is because its a old school Jordan 1 and you know everybody loves it…I especially do. It reminded me how you can start out with only one thing and build it up into a business and be successful. What I’m really trying to say is even, if you have an idea try and make it become the best idea you ever had. And put that through a real life situation and just go with the flow and never give up on your dreams cuz you can make it anywhere if you work hard enough. The lyrics by Quando Rondo is pretty much everything my life was. It means a lot to me because I’ve been in these situations before and I avoid giving up even when I wanted to. But I knew one day I was going to make it cuz I worked hard for it. The lyrics by NBA Youngboy mean a lot to me. Even though his pain run deep, I think my runs deeper. I really messed with his lyrics because everything isn’t a good day.”

This mural represents much more and can resonate with everyone who reads and admires it. Next time you are in the back hallway, take some time to take it all in because, it’s not just a sneaker.
