Community Building at Centennial Park

Students in the library competing in the "Flip Your Lid" competition.

School is off to a great start and there are a lot of new faces amongst staff and students. As a part of our continued commitment to building and nurturing relationships, we have been spending time each week on activities that bring a bit of laughter and joy while helping to bring cohesiveness to our community. So far this year, staff and students have participated in three community building events. The first was a Selfie Scavenger hunt, where each advisory raced to complete specific selfie challenged. Chris Statham’s advisory reigned supreme for the first time and walked away with the coveted gnome trophy.

The second consisted of two activities: a sandwich making competition and a rousing game of Hide and Seek Tag.  Winners of the Sandwich competition made the most delicious, visually appealing sandwich using the secret ingredient, sunflower seeds. Winners of the competition included Edel Aragon-Cruz, Antonio Gutierrez, Erik Tapia and the Quintero Velazquez sisters, Adriana and Kendra.

Most recently, this past Wednesday, each advisory selected participants to compete in three Minute to Win It, red solo cup themed competitions in the library.  After an intense four round and championship battle, Jada Avila crushed the competition in the Flip Your Lid event.  Carson Derryberry outlasted and outstacked a bevy of opponents in a grueling 36 cup stacking competition called Stack Attack. Finally, in This Blows, a battle royale of lung capacity and strategy, Anthony Purifoy blew the competition away to be crowned the winner and champion.
