Centennial Park School is fortunate to have the support of many people and organizations. For the purpose of this article, I would like to give a shout out to Jassa Gunn. Kathryn Harden and Steps PDX Studio.
Jassa volunteers her time to teach a fun and challenging dance class for a group of CPS students on Wednesday afternoons. A 2016 graduate of Pacific University, Jassa majored in dance and minored in music. Her dance instruction includes Hip Hop, Free Style, Club Style, Jazz, and Contemporary techniques. When the class was struggling to find a venue in which to practice, she searched for a studio that was willing to donate a space for free. Jassa found Kathryn Harden from Steps PDX.
Steps PDX is located in the Troy Laundry Building on 221 SE 11th. The studio’s artistic director, Kathryn Harden, teaches ballet to all ages and various levels, and other instructors have classes in Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, and Dancehall styles. Started in October 2017, the goal of Steps PDX is to educate, inspire and enrich lives through dance. The partnership established between CPS and Steps PDX certainly supports that goal. Centennial students have the opportunity to practice in a safe, professional and encouraging environment, where they can be physically challenged, practice self-expression and enjoy learning.
