As CPS heads in to the second half of the year, it does so with some exciting news on the horizon—we will be receiving some additional grant money due to our new status as a Title I school. This means that we will have access to some additional resources that will help our staff and students in significant ways.
In addition to our Title 1 funds, we will be adding a part time bilingual liaison position as well as a new English Language Development (ELD) specialist. We are still searching for a candidate for the bilingual position. Melissa Davis has filled the ELD position. She will be working with our English Language Learners to provide them with additional support.
In addition we have been included as part of Trillium Family Services, Keep Oregon Well grant and will be improving our student break space, developing health curriculum and screening the movie “Screenagers”. We haven’t yet confirmed the final design for the break space. Staff and students will be called on to make suggestions. While it probably won’t have a hot tub or bunk beds, it will still be pretty awesome. I’m hoping for an espresso machine!
The primary function of the Title 1 funds will be applied towards an after school program. Development of this program is still in the early stages. Look for an update when the program gets started.
All of these changes, and potentially some more in development, point to a bright and exciting future for CPS. We look forward to making the most of these additional resources for years to come.
