How is a school a part of the community? How does a school connect with its community? How can we build the relationships we know we need between the school and the community?
Those are some of the questions our Principal and leader Ajai Huja posed to the CPS staff. We answered with the time honored and age-old sage piece of wisdom, the way to a community’s heart is through its stomach!
This September 18th from 6pm to 8ish the Staff and students of CPS hosted the 2nd annual CPS Family BBQ here at our school. The Principals advisory council created the menu. It was a good ole fashioned finger lickin good menu! We served pork baby back ribs braised in veggies, coca cola and coffee then finished on the grill
and brushed with Sweet Baby Rays sauce. Fresh corn on the cob, roasted red potato and caesar salads were the side dishes. For dessert we offered chocolate dipped strawberries and pineapple.
The mood of the evening was one of a big and joyous extended family. Of a community and a school sitting down to dinner, and celebrating the partnerships we have, and above all, the work we do for our students together. The consensus was this was the best Family BBQ night yet. Who knows? Come join us next year- for as we grow as a community and a school, as we get better in both, well as the age old wisdom also suggests, so shall our BBQ!
